Clifton Park Soccer Club, Inc.
Minutes of June 15, 2004
The next meeting is at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 20th.
PRESIDENT: Fall Rec soccer sign ups will be held at Town Hall
on Wednesday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 26th. A few tickets are still
available for the bus trip to see Manchester United play at the Meadow
Lands on July 31st. Tickets cost $55, which includes the bus ride. The
bus will leave from the Commons parking lot around 8:30 AM and return
home around 7 PM. Kickoff is 1 PM. Call Peter at 371-5369 if you are
interested. Peter asked the U-8 coaches to stay after the Club meeting.
PREMIER LEAGUE: Things are going fine.
CDYSL: There was not a quorum again for this meeting. The Annual
General meeting will be Sunday, August 22. This year's logo contest
had 26 entries and Judy Burbalous of Ballston Spa was the winner. Club
Presidents have been asked to review the new rules for small-sided play.
Fees will be going up next season, when this is finalized the information
will be posted on their web site. The bill for the first half of the
season is coming out, there have been 46 violations for not sending
the green game card back (1/2 of these were in the U-8 Division), 14
forfeits and 57 no shows by referees out of 1400 games. U-8's are reminded
that they still need to send in the green card to show that the game
was played or your team will be fined. The 2nd VP and two at-large seats
are open for next year and volunteers for the Games Committee are needed.
ENY will have a State Risk Management Coordinator and each league will
also be asked to have a coordinator as well. Clubs will be required
to have a form for each coach, manager or anyone in direct contact with
players. Clubs are also encouraged to have Board members fill out the
forms. Summer hours will take effect for the CDYSL Office; if you call,
leave a message and they will get back to you. Logical Net is updating
the web site. CDYSL is available to help clubs with publicity, contact
them at Julio@nycap.rr.com. The new Referee Association has expressed
their thanks for the support they have received this season and ask
for help in recruiting referees for next season.
REGISTRAR: Nothing to report.
TOURNAMENT: We will have a total of 154 teams participate this
year. Schedules will be posted on the web site soon. We will have 12
games on Friday night for U-14 and above teams. Team registration and
the mandatory coaches meeting will be held at the Comfort Suites in
Clifton Park on Friday, July 9th at 8 PM.
VOLUNTEER: Coordinators should have all their teams time slots
assigned and work will be starting in a few weeks.
COACHING COMMITTEE: Coaching applications are due by June 30th;
the application is on our web site. Coaching evaluations should have
been distributed to team parents and they are due back by June 30th
also. Tryout dates were announced. A small discussion ensued with some
confusion on particular tryout dates. A decision will be made and dates
will be posted on the web and bulletin board. Coaches, it is your responsibility
to remove the stakes holding your goals, return the flags and move the
goals off the lines after your games. If you move goals for practice,
they should be returned where you found them before practice. We need
your cooperation to allow for a smooth, uninterrupted operation when
the fields are lined.
ADULT
LEAGUE: The issue of a recreation vs. competitive league has
come up a few times. The adult league would like the flexibility to
play some of their games under the lights in the fall. The league is
looking to stay together for the summer as a pick up league only and
is working with Peter on this. If you're interested, contact Bill at
bill@villaj.com or 383-3185.
INDOOR: Last weekend coming up. Minimal complaints this year,
good job and thank you to the coaches and players. On March 13th the
color guard was using the Gowana gym, which was a scheduled practice
for our teams. Frank will check to make sure we do not get charged for
this time.
OLD BUSINESS: Janet Cody mentioned that a few teams never forwarded
team photos for placement in the tournament book. If you provide her
with a roster ASAP, she can at least include a list of the players'
names in the book.
NEW BUSINESS:A question was raised on the U-10 age group for
CDYSL. Next season the league will be non-results oriented for the U-10
age group, yet ENY has an U-10 age group for State Cup play. It does
not appear to be consistent with the direction of youth soccer from
the USYSA. A small discussion followed and it was agreed that John Seltenreich,
our CDYSL Rep, should bring back to the CDYSL Board a few issues and
concerns we have about State Cup. The inclusion of U-10 for State Cup
competition, having the first round scheduled for March 19th when the
majority of teams in the Northern Division can't get outside fields
until April 1st and always having the State Cup schedule revolve around
the school break schedules for Long Island (historically the week preceding
our school breaks). Peter expressed that he's been fighting this battle
since 1979 but with more teams involved from the North, we should raise
these issues with CDYSL as a whole. Question was asked, would we be
making any adjustments to the tournament rules for U-10 and lower this
year. Yes, U-10 and lower will be non-results oriented and all teams
will receive awards for participation.
